On Thursday 15th December 2016, BOSCO Uganda held an advocacy workshop meeting with Stakeholders in Kitgum District at COW Foundation to have a collective responsibility over the different ICT Centres.
During the Advocacy meeting where 14 (1F and 13M) Stakeholders participated, Kitgum Matidi Sub County LC III Mr. Oketta yot Kenneth Aroo said, In Kitgum Matidi Sub County as a whole, theft of Government and local properties has greatly reduced in the area and as local governmental leaders, they pledged to preciously take care of the ICT equipment within their sub County and will create visibility means to have the ICT centre known to the public. In addition to what the LC III said, the CDO mentioned that, the Site management committees will always be invited for the coordination meetings held by the Council of the sub county to enable the local government leaders updated and to integrate any support to Pagwa Shamba youth group as one of the active youth group within the Sub County.
While at Lamwo District, BOSCO Uganda team met with the LC V of the District Hon. Komakech John Ogwok who told the team that, He was made aware of the team’s presence and operation within the District by the Chief Executive Director Rev.Fr. Dr. Joseph Okumu. He further told the team that, BOSCO Uganda as an ICT Organisation under the umbrella of Archdiocese of Gulu should sign and MOU with the District and communities with clear tasks and responsibilities, have meaningful partnership with the community that has positive impacts. This is because as local government, there are gaps that exists where the government itself cannot fill and the local government’s hand is wide open to welcome these important opportunities for our people who were in the wars for a long period. He concluded by saying, Northern Uganda still lags behind because of lack of seriousness of the stakeholders who continues to do things the normal way. He finally added that, if BOSCO Uganda finds any challenge in its operations in the District, it should be communicated and he will take the loss of equipment at Ber Bedo Group in Palabek Gem Seriously with his team.
In the advocacy meeting with the leaders from the different stakeholders from the different jurisdiction in Lamwo District, Palma Ayero Obol, the CDO Palabek Gem said, as a development agent, she will hold meeting with the leaders of Palabek Gem sub county about the loss of Computers at Ber Bedo Group and Feed backs will be communicated to BOSCO Uganda before Christmas break of 2016.
Florence Amedo, the CDO Lokung Sub county said, Lalak Express ICT Youth group benefited from the Community Driven Development (CDD) initiative of 2 Million Uganda Shillings (2,000,000/=) under the Sub County in 2015 to support their activities and again as the sub county, they plan to support the youth group cement the floor and plaster the wall of the computer room since computers needs to be dust-free for its smooth functioning. She concluded by saying that, as Lokung Sub county, they pledge to support the youth in Capacity building to strengthen their operation and sustainability.
The Vice Chairperson LC III, Padibe Town Council Hon. Nyeko Felix testified that, Padibe Lamwo Archdeaconry ICT Centre even if they are left in the hands of the Community now, it can run on its own based on the different IGAs the site is running though there is need for massive awareness creation since most people to-date still thinks the ICT Centre is a property lobbied by Lamwo Archdeaconry church which make some people not to come to the ICT Centre but with all the information learnt at the Advocacy meeting, people will be sensitized and the number will increase. He concluded by saying that, BOSCO Uganda should work hard on strengthening the capacity of people through the use of information and communication Technology.
The advocacy meeting was later adjourned by Amito Susan Oryem who is the secretary Works and Technical service Lamwo District Local Government. She Said that, BOSCO should continue to coordinate with the District because the district is able to assess, monitor and recommend on how BOSCO Uganda should move forward.
Later still on Friday 16th December 2016, the same BOSCO Uganda team conducted the 2nd out of the 5 Talk shows to be conducted under this Project intervention “Enhance Human Rights and Development through ICT in Northern Uganda” with funding from HORIZONT3000. The talk show was done at 103, Tembo FM to educate the listeners on their Rights and to share experiences between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm where some listeners were able to call into the studio to ask questions that were later on answered by the team in studio.
