This opportunity came under new partnership between BOSCO Uganda and FIRE AFRICA (http://www.fireafrica.org), one of Africa’s leading Grants and Awards programmes designed to encourage, support and develop innovative online solutions to Africa’s education, information, infrastructure and communication needs under the intervention ” Expanding BOSCO Uganda’s internet/intranet network access to the remote rural communities in Northern Uganda”
Being a one year project started in 2017, 7 Community ICT Centres will receive internet/intranet connectivity from both Lango & Acholi Sub region. The benefiting community locations are 2 Sites in Lira/Oyam Districts, 2 Sites, Kitgum, 2 Sites, Pader and finally 1 in Omoro Districts
In addition to above, the project will contribute to the Upgrade of five towers in the following locations; Opit tower, Rappa FM tower & Latanya, Pader District, 1 in Kitgum and 1 in Ngetta, Lira District.
BOSCO Uganda’s technical team on 01st-03rd February, 2017 travelled and upgraded Opit relay tower and replaced 100 Ah Battery with 200Ah ,cable lugs, electric cable, mounted 2 pieces of 125 watts Solar panels, made network cables for the radios on the tower and their POE lines, replaced 8 port switch with a 16 port switch with DC-DC converter, mounted the 34 dbi dish and PBE link between Opit –Atyang (Waroco Kwo buying and selling youths group ICT site) and finally Opit-Minakulu (Acan DANO chairs and tents hiring youth group).
