In a continuous ecumenical efforts to narrow the digital divide, enhanced respect of human rights and holistic development in Acholi and Lango Sub region, BOSCO Uganda brought on board a new community group with the name Opoo Lacen Youth group in to a new mutual partnership with BOSCO Uganda.
This extension of community connectivity and globalization was possible with funding support from Austrian Development Agency & DKA Austrian through its Uganda based Agency known as HORIZONT3000 (H3K) under its project intervention “Enhance Human Rights and Development through ICT in Northern Region”
The technical team of BOSCO Uganda headed by Benson Olobo successfully completed a two-day’s technical installation of equipment on 14th March 2016 in a core team of Solomon Okot-Assistant Technical Manager, Elvis Kilama-Field Coordinator and Johnson Robert Nyeko- BOSCO’s transport Officer (Driver).
The installation team delivered a package of 5 Mercer low powered computers, printer, Solar Panels and Battery systems and many others under the ownership and commitment of Nwoya community but through a functional youth group with established management structure.
With this installation under the intervention 2016-2018, all the five-new community ICT Centres have been successfully installed at;
- Pagak ICT Centre- Lamogi Sub county, Amuru District
- Amuru Lamogi Old Boys & Girls Association, Amuru Sub County, Amuru District.
- Opoo Lacen Youth Group, Anaka Sub County, Nwoya District.
- Waroco Kwo Produce buying & Selling, Lakwana Sub County, Nwoya District
- Acan Dano Tents and Chairs hiring Youth group, Minakulu Sub county, Oyam District.
All these Community ICT Centres are open to all categories of people in the community without any sexual, racial, cultural, educational, age, religious or whatever reason for learning purpose as teams of energetic youth have been recruited as trainers of trainees/trainers.
The knowledge and skills acquired from these ICT Centres should enhance respect of human rights, self-reliance, bridge the digital divide and holistic development.
