BOSCO UGANDA AND PAMOJA NET HEADLINE 5TH COMMUNITY NETWORK SUMMIT

Tomorrow (24th February 2021) BOSCO Uganda will take part in the fifth Virtual Network summit on community networks session five organized by the Internet Society (ISOC) and Association for Progressive Communications (APC) in collaboration with Germany Development Agency GIZ and the African Union.
Themed “Inside an African Community Network”, the summit will look deeply into focus on the inner workings of a community networks; BOSCO Uganda and Pamoja Net, a community network started in 2016 on the island of Idjwi to provide internet access to the people of Eastern DRC and will run for two hours from 3:00pm- 5:00pm E.A.T.
The two focus African community networks based in Uganda and The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) respectively will each present short video clips showing how they handle their day to-day activities right from governance to the technical operations and also how they approach the complex issue of sustainability which has been a key issue in the previous session four of the Fifth Network Summit that happened on the 27th of January under the theme of sustainability.
Prior the fifth series that is happening tomorrow, previous series have examined community engagement strategies, funding for community networks and sustainability.
The participants will then discuss the networks in an interactive session that will also allocate time for questions and answers from the audience that will be directed towards the teams behind the two community network organizations.
The annual community network summits by Internet Society began in 2016 in an effort to bring together community networks in Africa to foster learning, networking, knowledge and experience sharing and the previous network summit was held in Dodoma, Tanzania.
The fifth network summit is being was broken down into series with tomorrow’s session being the fifth and last that is being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic regulations.
